HOLLYWOOD A-lister Tom Hanks has revealed that he's an Aston Villa fan, joining several other big names with an allegiance to the claret and blue.

The Forrest Gump star recently declared that he liked the team because of their "old world" name which he compared to other teams like Manchester United and Arsenal.

"I'm big on Aston Villa because the name is so sweet, it sounds like a lovely spa," he said.

What he really knows about football may be open to debate, but Tom is in good celebrity company because also following the Villa are the likes of Prince William and Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy Osbourne.

Others include Fast Show comedian Mark Williams, violinist Nigel Kennedy, international hockey player Jane Sixsmith, Bank of England chairman Mervyn King, pop group Ocean Colour Scene, Radio WM presenter Phil Upton and members of Duran Duran.

But there may be some rivalry in the Osbourne household come every Blues Villa derby as Ozzy's celebrity son Jack flies his colours as a Birmingham City supporter.

Ozzy is rumoured to have delivered tapes of Blues games to Jack while he was in rehab in California as the clinic did not have the right sports channels to pick up the matches.

Other celebrity favourites spotted in the stands at St Andrew's have included Brummie comedian Jasper Carrott who famously said of the club's performances: "You lose some, you draw some".

Urban music star Mike Skinner (aka The Streets) is rumoured to be a fan of the club as well as Scottish-born Dalziel and Pascoe star Colin Buchanan, members of UB40 and Wizzard musician Roy Wood.

Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne is also a big fan of the Blues, as he should be with his song Mr Blue Sky played before every match.

Wolves fans can boast Slade musican Noddy Holder amongst their number as well as Monty Python star Eric Idle, singer Beverley Knight, former sports presenter David Coleman, rocker Robert Plant and Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis.

Over at The Hawthorns, rock singer Eric Clapton is a renowned Baggies fan along with Brummie stunner turned US TV presenter Cat Deeley.

Comedians Lenny Henry and Frank Skinner are also to be found with the fans supporting West Brom.

Meanwhile famous faces likely to drop in to the Banks's Stadium to see Walsall FC could include pop mogul Pete Waterman, Central Tonight newsreader Bob Warman, Olympic medallist Nick Gillingham and Walsall South MP Bruce George.
