Sarah's top of the tots

Jan 24 2004

By Andy Probert, Evening Mail

Self-made Midland TV pop star Angelle is back on the scene with designs on making it big - in children’s clothing.

The star is planning to swap her blonde bomb-shell Britney looks and the cut-throat music industry for a needle-match with business rivals in designing hot fashion.

Sarah Bennett has set up the Coleshill-based Dynky fashion house and is already forging links with top High Street chains and catalogue companies to sell her clothes. She is hosting a major exhibition at the NEC tomorrow.

It is a far cry from her former crazy pop world, when she was given a TV channel by her multi-millionaire husband, Steve.

The 27-year-old pop star, who grew up in Sutton Coldfield, became the first pop star to have a TV channel dedicated to her on Sky channel Vibe TV.

The TV venture, created by her husband, the founder of jungle.com, went on to be a major success and she went on to play live for the 2002 Party in the Park gig in front of 30,000 people.

But her pop career foundered when her single Joy and Pain reached No 43 in the charts.

Instead, Sarah concentrated on plans to start a new business in the designer children’s clothing field.

Sarah, of Furnace End, near, Coleshill, said: “The pop career was so disappointing because it was such an innovative thing to have a TV channel, but problems began when we received little airplay for the record. I have no excuses because the industry is so different from any other and I think we were slightly ahead of our time. It was a great idea but I took a bit of stick for the way it was done.

“I took time out, had a baby, Jessie, and started thinking about setting up a children’s design business.

“I think Angelle could still live on, but it may come as a shock to some that she has a business brain who can cut it in a different industry. The pop thing has made me even stronger and more determined to succeed.”
