Rock guitarist is Mr Blue Sky

Feb 19 2004

By Ed Stephens, Evening Mail

Former Electric Light Orchestra guitarist Dave Scott-Morgan is now playing at a higher level after buying into an air taxi business.

The rocker turned commercial pilot and church pastor has bought out Birmingham-based Air Taxis with partners Alan Smith and Captain Mike Chamberlain.

Dave, who joined ELO in 1981 and performed with them until their final concert in Stuggart five years later, became a commercial pilot in the early 1990s, working from Birmingham International Airport training other flyers.

In recent years he has done a lot of work with Air Taxis and when the chance came to buy the business he decided to grab it.

Now he has plans to expand the company and eventually add a jet to the company's six-seater Piper Senecca.

"I'm looking forward to developing new markets and cultivating a wider range of services," said Dave.

"I want to take on corporate commuter flying as well as social and pleasure packages."

When he is not flying, he is still playing the guitar which he used in ELO, who had one of their biggest hits with Mr Blue Sky.

As the pastor at The Church on the Hill, Northfield, he plays at the services as there is no organ.

The 60-year-old musician also does shows and concerts at other churches.
