Jeff Goldblum visits Dudley

Jun 6 2003

Actor Jeff Goldblum surprised moviegoers as he attended a preview screening of his new film, Igby Goes Down, at a Dudley cinema yesterday.

The Hollywood star - whose credits include The Fly, Jurassic Park and Independence Day - admitted it was his first time in the West Midlands.

And he voiced sympathy over Birmingham's loss in the European Capital of Culture 2008 race by quipping: "I've never been here before but I feel bad for you guys, this has been the best ten minutes in my life."

Talking about his film career Goldblum said he was proud of each project he has worked on.

"I didn't consciously decide to do a low-budget, independent movie like Igby, I just go for what I think are good scripts or stories. I'm not biased.

"I've heard the rumours about a sequel being planned for Independence Day but I'm afraid I don't have the inside track on that, but of course I'd be interested if it goes ahead.

"That said I'm very proud of all the work I do, particularly with Igby, it was just such a joy to do."
