ASBO man banned from contacting ex-girlfriend

Aug 19 2005

A MAN has been banned from contacting his former girlfriend in a ground-breaking antisocial behaviour ruling.

Frank Gibson, 28, of no fixed address, has been issued with an interim ASBO following a catalogue of allegations of domestic violence, criminal damage, drunken behaviour and threats.

It is the first time Birmingham City Council has used an ASBO in such a case.

Gibson has been told to stop harassing his former partner and can only contact her or her daughter through a solicitor as part of family proceedings, the council said.

He has also been banned from the Lyndhurst estate, in Erdington, under threat of arrest.

The interim order will remain in place until August 2010.

District housing manager Martin Tolley said: "This action is evidence of our tough stance against anti-social behaviour and domestic violence in the community."

Alison Parsons, head of the Birmingham Anti-Social Behaviour Unit, added: "Residents deserve to live without the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour caused by a few.

"The council will continue to take action against the instigators."
