Bass player Clint Warwick, aged 63, of Kingstanding, died from a liver complaint in Good Hope Hospital on Saturday. He formed the Moody Blues in 1964 with Denny Laine, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge but left the band in 1966 after playing on their only number one hit, Go Now.

During his time with the Moodies Clint, whose real name was Albert Eccles, toured with the Beatles and became friends with Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

Writing on his website, pianist Mike Pinder said Clint was: "One of the good men this world has known."

Songwriter and friend Laurie Hornsby added: "He was a very gentle man who didn't have a bad bone in his body."

Following his time with the Moody Blues Clint pursued a career as a carpenter but encountered problems with alcohol and endured heartache through the death of one of his sons, Paul, in 1996.

His other son, Lee, said his father had been winning his fight with alcohol, had met a new partner, Pamela Phelan, and was making music again.

"It would be good if some of the music he'd been working on could be released," he said.

The funeral will be held at 10.15am at Perry Barr Crematorium on Saturday.

A horse drawn carriage will transport the coffin from Kingstanding to Perry Barr.
