Prison for dad with cocaine in pants

Jun 21 2004

A drug dealer found with cocaine stuffed in his pants has been jailed for three years.

Shaun Dacosta, 29, of Ladywood, was being searched by police when a drawstring bag fell out.

Inside were 12 wraps of cocaine with a street value of £3,280, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Police first suspected Dacosta when they stopped him for driving while disqualified and smelled cannabis in his car.

They searched his flat and found £1,560 and drug making equipment.

Dacosta pleaded guilty to a variety of charges including possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and possession of cannabis, heroin and crack cocaine.

Judge Robert Orme said he was jailing him for the shortest possible sentence as he had a young family and had shown he was trying to reform.

Dacosta told the judge that he had an eight-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son he wanted to care for.

He said he was concerned for his son as he was starting to show behavioural problems and did not want him to get into a life of crime as he himself had done.
