Hypnotist cures Lorraine's crippling fear

Jul 29 2004

By Jamsheed Din, Evening Mail

For the last 15 years Lorraine Pitt has been a virtual prisoner in her own home.

Chronic agoraphobia meant the furthest she could go was a five minute walk from her Sutton Coldfield home, and she even had to miss her mother's funeral because of her fear of open spaces.

But now the 44-year-old (pictured) is able to live life again after undergoing therapy from Adam Mussa, a protege of top TV hypnotist Paul McKenna.

She said: "I walked around my local shops for the first time in fifteen years - it was something totally different. I now know that I can do it. The treatment has been excellent - he just talked to me and put things in my mind."

In the past Lorraine relied upon partner Ian Jameson to do all of her shopping and errands.

She said: "I met Ian on my doorstep because he was my postman. He was doing everything for me. My mother used to live with me but when she died I could not even go to her funeral - that was seven years ago."

Adam, whose Inspiring Solutions clinic is in Temple Row, uses a technique called neurolinguistic programming and mild hypnosis to free the mind from phobias and addictions.

He said: "We find out what happens in the mind and how it sustains a phobia, we pay attention to the patient.

"So instead of trying to mould them to what the text books say, we change instead to mould to them."

For Lorraine and her boyfriend Ian, the future is now bright. She said: "I tried all sorts of therapies before but they did not work.

"However, I am taking this one step at a time. There are still a few things I need to sort out within myself. We would like to go down to the coast but it's getting used to travelling around first."

For more information ring Adam on 0800 093 5277.
