Chain aims for 'sex wars' on High Street

American sex store chain Hustler Hollywood will open its first outlet outside the US today in the unlikely surroundings of Birmingham's High Street.
The self-styled "erotic emporium" - opposite the more strait-laced charms of Marks & Spencer - will be unveiled by porn magnate Larry Flynt this morning.
Hustler Hollywood hopes the outlet, the UK's largest adult store, will stimulate "sex wars on the high street" and arouse the same level of celebrity interest as its shop on LA's famous Sunset Boulevard.
The interior of the 6,000 sq ft store and cafe in Birmingham is billed as "Gap meets Starbucks meets sumptuous nightclub" and is said to offer an unintimidating and female-friendly environment.
Products on offer will include lingerie, sex toys, body oils, scented candles, novelties for hen and stag nights, Hustler branded clothing, books and jewellery.
The firm hopes to establish 10 storesacross the UK by 2012 and plans to occupy a site in London's Covent Garden next year.
The Hollywood Hustler concept was conceived by Theresa Flynt-Gaerke, daughter of Larry Flynt, who founded Hustler magazine and Larry Flynt Publishing Inc.
