One of the country's finest Indian musicians is playing his home city tonight in a concert dedicated to the memory of former Beatle George Harrison.
Tabla star Mohinder Singh is staging the Birmingham concert on what would have been George's 62nd birthday. The star died of cancer in December 2001.
Mohinder, from Moseley, will play alongside world-renowned sitar player Pandit Shalil Shankar, who became a close friend of George when he met him in India several decades ago.
Mohinder, aged 31, who travels the world playing the tabla, said all proceeds from the concert would be dedicated to the Asian tsunami appeal.
He said: "George Harrison did immense work for charity and his love for people is a great example and inspiration to aspiring musicians like us.
"Celebrating his birthday and remembering his immortal saying 'love one another' has a great significance for today's generation in a cosmopolitan society like Birmingham."
Shalil Shankar, who has travelled from his home in Switzerland for the concert, said: "When I met George many years ago he made a great impression on me."
Mohinder started playing the tabla at the age of six and still practises up to six hours a day. He has also played alongside musicians in Africa and Egypt and has even performed with didgeridoo musicians in Australia.
The Love One Another concert take place tonight at the Adrian Boult Hall, in Paradise Place, to the left of Central Library.
