£10,000 reward after casino ram raid by lorry

Aug 19 2005

The owners of a Birmingham casino have put up a reward of £10,000 for information that leads to the capture of two robbers who made off with a "substantial" amount of money following a ram raid.

Detectives have also appealed to the public to tell them if they know of anyone who has recently come into money, especially a large number of £50 notes, which made up the majority of the cash haul.

On Sunday night, ram raiders used a seven-and-a-half tonne flatbed lorry - stolen from an industrial yard in Tyseley 30 minutes earlier - to crash through a rear wall of the Midland Wheel casino in Edgbaston.

As the dust settled, two men wearing balaclavas clambered through the rubble-strewn hole and threatened a male cashier in an office. They scooped up banknotes before fleeing.

Police at Rose Road station recovered the white Iveco lorry, registration number L824 HCP.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Campbell said: "This was a brazen offence but clearly there had been some planning."

Anyone with information can contact police on 0845 113 5000.
