CD:UK presenter Myleene Klass announces her role as official ambassador for the UK’s biggest youth fundraiser, World Vision’s 24-hour famine TV and radio presenter Myleene Klass today announced her support as UK ambassador for aid and development charity World Vision’s 24- hour Famine campaign.

Myleene will join other celebrities such as Kelly Osbourne, Fearne Cotton and Corrie star Nikki Sanderson, to mark the 20th anniversary of the UK’s longest running youth fundraiser.

Myleene, who recently travelled to Sierra Leone with World Vision to meet young people and communities who will benefit from money raised from this year’s campaign, is urging young people in the UK to generate sponsorship by tasting hunger for one day and help change lives.

"I'm incredibly excited to support World Vision's 24-hour Famine campaign, especially as they celebrate the twentieth anniversary of this fantastic youth fundraiser this year.

I really hope that as many young people as possible from across the UK get involved again in March. By taking part in the campaign we can really give hope and a future in the lives of teenagers in Sierra Leone.

I’m privileged to have had the chance to see with my own eyes the great work World Vision is doing in the country and meet young people in communities where money from the 24-hour Famine can and will change lives," says Myleene.

The 2006 campaign takes place between 17-19 March and money raised will help provide young people in Sierra Leone with the education, skills and training to find a job which will benefit them, their families and their whole community.

Last year’s event was supported by Atomic Kittens’ Jenny Frost and Liz McClarnon and raised over half a million pounds, which is now being used to help vulnerable children orphaned by HIV/Aids in developing countries such as Zambia.

Jenny said:“Working with World Vision’s 24-hour Famine last year and visiting their projects in Zambia really opened my eyes as to how very little can go a very long way in improving people’s lives. I think it’s fantastic the 24-hour Famine campaign is in its 20th year, I remember taking part in it at school, and how it felt when we made our donation to the campaign. I would encourage teenagers today to do the same, their help is needed now more than ever!”

The 24-hour Famine has been hugely influential over the last twenty years, helping World Vision in their ongoing commitment to change the lives of millions of people living in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Matt Wenham, Youth Manager for World Vision said, “We are delighted that so many celebrities have decided to get involved and help raise awareness of the 24-hour Famine youth campaign this year. We hope their support will encourage lots of teenagers to take part in the weekend of 17-19 March or sponsor a friend who is giving up food.”
