Dad fined over robbery claim

A FATHER-of-three who claims he was robbed at gunpoint has been hit with an £80 fine - after police accused him of making the crime up.

Lee Jones, of Yardley Close, Oldbury, swore on his children's life that he was violently mugged in Bearwood Road, Bearwood.

But officers who interviewed him said there were contradictions in his story, thought he was lying and issued him with an £80 fixed-penalty ticket for wasting police time.

Now furious Mr Jones, aged 36, is taking legal advice and plans to appeal.

He insisted today he was robbed of £190 when he was attacked at about 2pm on Monday.

"I had parked behind the Kwik Save super-market in Bearwood Road when I was grabbed from behind as I got into my car," he said.

"I was pushed onto the bonnet by this man and the next thing I knew a second man came running up and held a gun to my head.

"I was terrified and let them take whatever they wanted. I was carrying nearly £200 because my child's birthday is coming up and
