A woman is set to be assessed under the Mental Health Act after a lollipop lady was stabbed in the face near a Wolverhampton junior school.
West Midlands Police said the woman was detained in the Chapel Ash area after the crossing warden suffered a inch-long cut above her left eye.
A spokesman disclosed that a woman in her 30s had been detained in connection with the attack on the 64-year-old warden, who is being treated in hospital.
"It is understood there were no children being supervised by her at the crossing at the time of the stabbing, but there would have been parents and children in the area en route to the nearby school," the spokesman said.
"The woman, believed to be in her 30s and from Chapel Ash, remains in police custody and is awaiting a mental health assessment."
