So glad to be home

Mar 6 2004

By Alison Dayani, Evening Mail

She's home! Brave Sadie Stevens, who has captured the hearts of Evening Mail readers, was back with her family today - a month after losing her leg after being knocked down by a police car.

Sadie Stevens reads cards sent by Evening Mail readers.

The 11-year-old has made such a dramatic recovery that doctors have allowed Sadie (pictured) to be reunited with her family in Newtown far earlier than first thought.

Her fight for fitness has been further boosted by scores of kind-hearted Evening Mail readers who have given more than £3,000 to our Sadie Fund, which will be used to help the youngster.

Today, Sadie, a pupil at Holte Secondary School, Lozells, said: "It's so great to be home."

She added: "The best things are getting my mum's home cooking and dad being my personal tea slave. I feel very special."

Her thrilled parents, Brian and Karen Stevens, were originally told Sadie would not be allowed home from Birmingham Children's Hospital for up to a year.
