Birmingham Northfield MP Richard Burden has attacked the Post Office after it decided to press ahead with plans to close 24 branches in the south of the city.
The Labour MP, who had tabled a Commons motion on the closure plans, said he was pleased that sub-offices in Longbridge and Sunbury Road had been granted a reprieve.
But he added: "However, that still leaves Post Office Ltd intending to close 24 local post offices in the south Birmingham area and that is not acceptable.
"I do not claim that Post Office Ltd should keep open every post office everywhere, irrespective of the commercial realities.
"However, the evidence that has come out so far shows that there are real problems with the way Post Office Ltd is going about its Urban Reinvention Programme.
