WellChild Centre is Europe's first

By Staff Reporter, Evening Mail

The Evening Mail’s Why My Child Appeal aims to raised £1 million towards the first research centre into childhood diseases of its kind in Europe - right here in Birmingham.

The WellChild Research Centre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital will carry out vital research into treatments and cures for a number of childhood illnesses, including cancer, diabetes and liver diseases.

The campaign has been launched in partnership with the WellChild children’s charity, which has been funding research into childhood diseases for more than 25 years.

Kedge Martin, chief executive of WellChild, said: “All parents fear the news that their child is sick or dying and many parents ask: ‘why my child?’.

“In response to this cry, were are launching this appeal to establish the UK’s first flagship children’s research centre dedicated to finding the answers to some of the hardest questions about child health.”
