Birmingham pupils shared a geography lesson - with students in South Africa.
Pupils from Prince Albert Junior and Infant School near the city centre were taught geography together with youngsters thousands of miles away at a school in Khanya, near Cape Town.
It was courtesy of the latest ICT technology providing digital interactive video-conferencing.
It was used during the demonstration at the National e-Learning Foundation Conference held at Aston Villa Football Club.
A spokeswoman for the event said: "The pupils were able to ask each other questions in real time using video conferencing facilities. At each end they had an interactive white board which is what they have been holding lessons on.
In the future educationalists believe technology will be increasingly used in this way within schools. One use would be allow pupils to interact from the classroom with a teacher many miles away, bringing geography and history lessons alive.
