A SERVICE for older people with mental health problems in Birmingham and Solihull has been singled out for praise in the NHS's annual report.
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust helps patients aged over 65 recover in the community rather than in hospital, supported by a special team of mental health workers.
The trust is one of only a handful highlighted in the report by NHS chief executive Sir Nigel Crisp. The community rehabilitation team covers south Birmingham and looks after about 150 patients.
Manager Janet Wyatt said the ten-strong team of nurses and care assistants in Hall Green provides care to help people leave hospital earlier, or giving intensive emergency support to patients who would otherwise need hospital treatment.
She said: "While there was help with things like cooking or washing, there was little help for patients to get involved in the community again, which can be crucial to successful rehabilitation.
