A pregnant woman told today how she was kicked in the stomach by a gang of teenagers during a terrifying daylight attack in a busy shopping centre.
Gemma Allison, who is seven months pregnant, was kept in hospital following the ordeal in Solihull's Touchwood complex so doctors could monitor her unborn baby.
The 20-year-old, from Marston Green, today said she feared a miscarriage.
"They hit me in the chest and kicked me all over but I could only feel the pain in my stomach," said Gemma, a care assistant.
"I thought I was going to lose my baby because I couldn't feel it moving. I can't believe that an afternoon shopping turned out so terrible."
Gemma, of Radlow Crescent, was with her boyfriend Mike Glynn, 19, when the ten-strong gang struck on Friday at 4.45pm.
The couple had spent the afternoon visiting baby shops and buying Christmas presents.
Mike said they were walking past Starbucks coffee shop when the gang approached.
He said: "They accused me of staring at them and I knew at once that they were looking for trouble.
"They were shouting and verbally abusing us and we tried to walk away but they wouldn't let it drop. Someone jumped on me and then began kicking Gemma.
"I wasn't concerned about myself, I was only worried about Gemma and the baby."
Several shoppers tried to drag the thugs off the young couple as they waited for police.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Two assaults were reported to us. We are investigating the incident."
