Two youths ran off after a stolen car turned on its side and smashed into a block of flats in Redditch, causing major structural damage.
The red Rover Metro was left embedded in garages beneath flats in Winslow Close, West Mercia Police said.
A force spokesman said: "The car came round the corner, turned on to its side and then collided with the garage. The driver and passenger then climbed out of the car and ran off."
The vehicle was stolen from Fownhope Close in Redditch between 11pm on Tuesday and 7.15am on Wednesday.
The driver is described as white, 17-18, 5ft 8ins, and was wearing a two-tone blue hooded top and stone washed jeans.
The passenger is said to be white, 17-18, 5ft 3ins with short mousey brown hair.
He was wearing a sky blue jumper and light blue stone-washed jeans.
Sgt Julian Smith, from Redditch police, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw the car being stolen from Fownhope Close in Winyates or who knows where the car was kept between it being stolen and this collision.
"We are also keen to establish the sequence of events that led the car to collide with the property and we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.
"Equally, if anyone saw the two offenders leaving the scene, please give us a call. One of the offenders may have injured his stomach during the incident and he may need medical attention.
"Luckily the people who live in this flat were not in at the time of the collision but it was still a shock to return home and find their home with such extensive damage."
