Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff has voiced vehement opposition to plans to end direct bus services between Droitwich and the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
The Tory MP said permanent vigilance was required to protect bus services in the Vale of Evesham and Droitwich, many of which are essential to people without cars.
Mr Luff acknowledged that Government subsidy was keeping many rural bus services alive, but expressed grave concern at a range of proposed cuts centred on Droitwich, including threats to routes to and from the Chawson estate, to Hanbury, Wychbold, and Hampton Lovett.
"I regard all these threatened bus routes as being of great importance," he added.
"Perhaps the most shocking cut of all is the 22 and 22A which will no longer run from Droitwich to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
"I will be working hard to persuade the county council and the local health service that Droitwich people must have a direct service between their town and the hospital.
"A direct bus service is essential. Droitwich has lost its hospital, it has no community beds and its new health centre is threatened.
"Is it too much to except local people to be able to get to their hospital by bus?"
