Thief steals £3,750 watch

Mar 2 2004

A thief posing as a customer has escaped with a Rolex watch worth £3,750 from a shop in north Worcestershire.

West Mercia Police said the gold timepiece was taken from R F Collyer

Jewellers in New Road, Rednal, by a man who entered the shop and asked to look at watches.

A police spokesman said: "As the female sales assistant opened the drawer to take out a tray of watches, the man pushed her out of the way and grabbed the Rolex.

"He then ran out of the store without paying."

The offender, who has a Scottish accent, is described as white, 6ft, slim, in his early 20s and has short dark hair.

He was wearing a grey top with purple writing on it and Fred Perry jeans.

Detective Constable Jonathan Martin, from Bromsgrove CID, said: "The female assistant was scratched during this incident and was left feeling very shaken.

"We would appeal to anyone who has information or who recognises the offender from the description to get in touch."
