Dean's keen on role for Ince

Nov 29 2004

By Paul Berry, Evening Mail

DEAN Sturridge has championed the claims of Paul Ince to be part of the new Wolves coaching team undefined while also admitting it would be great to renew his working relationship with Jim Smith.

"I had great times with Jim Smith - he ignited my career and I played my best football under him so obviously it wouldn't be a disappointment," said Sturridge.

"And of course we all know Harry's reputation - his CV is exceptional and what he did at Portsmouth was excellent.

"Stuart has also been very positive for me personally while other people also have their eyes on the manager's job or a coaching role.

"Paul Ince is well respected in the football club and maybe he will get some sort of role as well but we will have to wait and see."

Ince, currently sidelined with an injured toe, is understood to be ready to cut his teeth in some sort of coaching capacity with the board not willing at this stage to let him loose as a manager.

Meanwhile Sturridge insists the continuing impasse will not affect the team.

"I am sure the club is in good hands with Jez Moxey and the chairman and if it is sorted this week all well and good," he said.

"But if it is the week after that then that will also be fine because we are paid to play football and that is what we are trying to do."
