Leading figures from West Midlands football have agreed to answer the questions of Row Z readers.*
This week it's the turn of Aston Villa's Croatian striker Bosko Balaban to take his place in the hotseat: Bosko my man! Congratulations on being part of the Croatian squad that has qualified for Euro 2004. You must be excited about going to Portugal. Goran, Harborn BB: You bet I am, Goran. Playing for my country has really given me something to focus on during the last couple of seasons when things have got difficult. Bosko, one league start. Two and-a-half seasons. Where did it all go wrong? Frank, Chelmsley Wood BB: It has been very difficult time for me. I do not know what I've done to upset the manager. I can't understand why he brought me here if he is not going to give me a chance. All I want is a chance to play football and score goals. This is why it is so upsetting for me. Have you tried to get back in the manager's good books? Andy, Stirchley BB: It is very difficult. I have tried to talk to Mr Gregory but he must be avoiding me. I haven't seen him at the training ground for several months now. Row Z: Eh, Bosko, John Gregory isn't the manager any more. BB: Really, what happened? Row Z: He left and was replaced by Graham Taylor. BB: Graham Taylor? What the angry man with the glasses? I thought he was Gareth Barry's dad. Well, in that case, I will try and have a chat with Mr Taylor as soon as possible. Row Z: Actually, he's not at the club any more. David O'Leary's the manager now. BB: This is exactly what I'm talking about. Nobody tells me anything. Row Z: Sorry. BB: Honestly, I ask you, how am I meant to make any kind of impression here when they keep changing everything? Row Z: ... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, on to the next question. BB: I mean, really, throw me a bone here, guys. Hi Bosko! Which other Villa players impress you? Grant, Olton BB: I've always thought Gareth Southgate is a world-class defender - and with Alpay beside him I think we have the foundation for an excellent defence. Then you've got Merson and Boateng in front of them and Ginola out wide... players like that are the reason I came here. I want to prove myself in that kind of team. Row Z: Bosko, you do realise that all those players ha... (just leave it or we'll be here all day - ed) What do you think of the Premiership? Isobel, Digbeth BB: Well Des Lynam is excellent and I like Ron Atkinson's witticisms and bon mots. And Ally McCoist, he's what we Croatians would call a 'right little smart ass'. Row Z: He means the league, not the TV show. BB: (starts weeping uncontrollably) I DON'T KNOW! WHAT ARE YOU ASKING ME FOR? IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY? Row Z: Unfortunately, that's all we've got time for. Thank you, Bosko Balaban. BB: (still sobbing) What have I done wrong? That's all I want to know. What exactly have I done wrong? *no they haven't - we've made the whole thing up. |
