Je suis un homesick Villan

Nov 10 2004

Villa boss David O'Leary today revealed he feared £1.9m signing Mathieu Berson may have had to move back to France.

The midfielder has struggled to settle since joining from Nantes in the summer.

"I thought maybe six weeks ago that I might have a lad who would come in to my office and say 'I can't settle down. I'm too homesick'," O'Leary told today's Evening Mail.

"His sister was over two weeks ago and he was a bit more upbeat but then taking her to the airport made him feel that she was going home and leaving him here."

Fortunately, Row Z's Department of Cultural Convergence has drummed up some initiatives to make Matthieu feel at home.

These include:

Rebranding Birmingham attractions to give them a gallic slant;

Adding a certain 'je nais c'est quoi' to the strip;

Parking a lorry-load of ill-treated sheep outside Villa Park;

Conducting nuclear weapons tests on a small atoll in the South Pacific.

Just thank us in goals, Matt.
