Last bash of summer is free for all

Sep 10 2004

By Emma Race

Radio One has organised a huge end of Summer bash for the Midlands called One Big Weekend and it's a dream line-up.

DJ Judge Jules

More than 12, 000 people are expected in Birmingham to party on Saturday September 18 and Sunday September 19, when the roadshow comes to town.

And that's because the acts confirmed on two stages, over two days, are sure to show the crowds a good time.

For starters, the Saturday dance day will see big beat king Fatboy Slim playing alongside Judge Jules and Tiesto, before XPress2 and Yousef grace the second stage.

And while Sunday is designed primarily to showcase bands, the line-up for the final day of the mini-festival will include the finest in pop and soul.

Songstrel Natasha Bedingfield, fresh from her two week stint in the chart's number one spot, is sure to perform 'These Words' live.

And teenage soul sensation, Joss Stone will be reminding fans of the moment when her mature voice held its own against legend Gladys Knight's, during the US VH1 Divas show.

Welsh rappers the GLC will also perform, and Radio One DJ Chris Moyles is sure to be tempted to share his parody of the group.

But the best thing about Britain's final big outdoor festival of the year is that it's all free.

Radio One staff will be handing out tickets on a first come, first served basis from Millennium Point, in front of Thinktank, Curzon Street, Digbeth, this weekend only.

Passes for the bash are limited to two per person, and to get tickets for Saturday you'll have to queue on Saturday September 11, for the Sunday on Sunday September 12.

But popular presenters Vernon Kay, Edith Bowman and Colin Murray, who will all travel up for the weekend to keep the punters entertained, promise the queues will be worth it.

*PARTY IN STYLE...

The tickets are free so splash out and stay in the hotel the stars and their entourages set their sights on, Birmingham's Hyatt Regency.

Justin Timberlake and David Bowie have graced this hotel's corridors when they performed shows at the NEC.

A king room at the hotel for that weekend costs from £99 a night, based on two people sharing.
