There has to be comedy value in a room full of solicitors desperately attempting to imagine themselves as an adventurous egg, and this is the considerable imaginative power that Lee Benson's creation Henry Egg wields.
The inimitable Egg was conceived by Benson about 12 years ago, by way of entertaining his two young daughters, but his audience has since grown considerably.
Benson, who also runs No9 The Gallery, has travelled round performing the book in schools, X an Y; with a boisterously hilarious response from both adults and children alike, and there is even talk of a TV series.
Performing in schools seems to be a favourite of Benson's: "I love it; the kids are all shouting their heads off, and the teachers are going bananas! I suppose it's a bit of a revenge thing; I was never that good at school."
Indeed it seems that Henry Egg is a bit of an alter ego extraordinaire for Benson; capable of all that is imaginatively possible; allowing his creator's and his audience's imaginations to run riot.
After all, as Benson is keen to emphasise, Henry is unbreakable!
So, as far as Henry's adventures are concerned, the sky's the limit!
Benson will be performing The Adventures of Henry Egg as part of the Birmingham Comedy Festival on Saturday 11 October at The Buttermarket, Brindleyplace Square, Brunswick Street, Brindleyplace.
