Sharp, quick and spontaneous, Michael Legge cut his teeth doing improvÂ’, and has since been edging into TV and radio with a string of writing credits. He appears at Jongleurs as part of the Evening Mail Birmingham Comedy Festival from Thursday 7 to Saturday 9 October 2004. HOW DID YOU GET INTO COMEDY? I started doing impressions of my Mum in Butcher shops when I was 4 just to get free meat. Sadly, that's true. Then I moved to London when I was 20 and got into improvised comedy. My office job forced me to start doing stand up 5 years ago. WHO ARE YOUR COMIC INFLUENCES? Local drunks usually provide me with all the inspiration I need. And one of them writes my material. FAVOURITE COMEDY FILM? At the moment it's Jersey Girl. Not strictly a comedy or a film but there's a great part were Ben Affleck says "I just want to apologise for the way I've been acting". At least he said sorry. FAVOURITE COMEDY TV SERIES? Britain's Most Haunted Woman on Living TV. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR BRAND OF COMEDY? Really stupid. I love stupidity and I'm proud to say I'm really good at being stupid. WHICH COMEDIANS DO YOU CURRENTLY ADMIRE? The Trap are a fantastic sketch group that you really should see. If you don't see them then there must be something wrong with you. Seriously. Stop being a freak and go and see them. As for stand up comedy, Andrew Maxwell is nothing short of a genius. BIRMINGHAM AUDIENCES? TOUGH? A GOOD LAUGH? They're fun. And afterwards you can eat like a king at Mr. Egg. What more could a lady want? ANY INTERESTING EXPERIENCES OF PLAYING IN THE CITY BEFORE? Yes. Playing leap frog with four other comedians in the dressing room before the show. The dressing room is about the same size as an average lift. I've still got the bruises and night terrors to prove it. HIGH-POINT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR? Writing the word Prestidigitator in a questionnaire. LOW-POINT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR? Not knowing what Prestidigitator means. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? I'm probably going to get dressed. I'm pretty hungry. You? WORST HECKLE? "There used to be a pool table in here".
