So there are plenty of opportunities for outgoing, enthusiastic people, able to get on well with all sorts of other people and possessing qualities of leadership.
Managers may have to be prepared to move around the region, or even the country and mobility is often required during training and for promotion. You must be willing to work long hours, including weekends, early mornings and late evenings, as many supermarkets, for example, are open almost round the clock.
Many graduates are recruited for management training schemes, but there are increasing opportunities for school or college leavers with fewer qualifications but good work experience.
