AS with any other industry, there are many pros and cons involved with working in retailing. Many shop workers enjoy contact with the public and, certainly, they like the discounts that some shops allow when staff purchase goods. Some people have an interest in working with particular products, such as clothes, books and music. A lot of people working in retail do so because they prefer to have time off in the week, rather than at weekends. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT And for the ambitious there are clear training routes, enabling young people to make rapid progress towards managerial positions. You may have to work late hours, especially in supermarkets, besides bank holidays when you might want to be out and about with the family. Some customers can be demanding, so you have to be patient.
