Season's greetings cover the Town Hall

By Staff Reporter, Evening Mail

The walls of Birmingham's Town Hall have been transformed into massive Christmas cards, celebrating scenes from the city's attractions.

Two giant banners were unveiled yesterday at the hall, which is currently undergoing a revamp.

The Chamberlain Square poster features a painting by internationally renowned Birmingham artist Reuben Colley.

Brindley Light depicts a winter scene on Birmingham's Main Line Canal near to the award winning Brindleyplace.

The picture was donated to the city council in 2003 by The Halcyon Gallery - the original is currently on display in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

A poster in Victoria Square, measuring 41 metres by 12 metres, features a new photographic image of the Wheel of Birmingham.

Coun John Alden, cabinet member for leisure, sport and culture, said: "We wanted to offer seasonal greetings from the city council and the city centre partnership."

Jonathan Cheetham, chair of the City Centre Partnership, added: "The city centre has so much to offer this year, it's really the place to be."
