What do you think about the changes that are happening to Birmingham? Or maybe you have something to say, good or bad, about the City Living channel, if so tell us what you think...
I have read comments from abroad and other brummies and without getting sentimental about our great city I feel that our overseas visitors are correct. Birmingham is a rubbish tip. If anyone would care to journey through Alum Rock or Small Heath High Streets on a sunday or monday morning it shows the contempt that is held for basic standards of hygiene. So much so that I now take alternate routes to avoid these areas. Shopkeepers that leave rubbish outside their shops before collection dates should be procecuted and fined heavily as this should be regarded the same as fly tipping but hey ho who are us brummies to say how our city council operates. We only pay our taxes for services that target easy areas. As for rules of the road, double parking, parking on pedestrian crossings, double yellow lines, and no car insurance or licences these issues are never dealt with only ignored. The sooner everyone in our city is treated the same the better and harmony not resentment could be achieved.

I am searching for anyone who could tell me something about a family named Burrard who lived at 13 Sladefield Road Ward End, Birmingham in 1957. The lady of the house called herself Nursing Sister Gratia Burrard. She was my Mother's Aunt and we know very little about her. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We arrived in England at Heathrow, the same day as the gold heist attempt, crime knows no borders. Birmingham: This place is way cool, I loved it. Great food at the Teapot Cafe, breakfast every day, great friends, met some very nice and cordial people. There is more to see than the average tourist has time to see. We of course had friends there that took us around to 3 castles, went to Wales, London, Liverpool, the Black Country Museum, Birmingham and many more places. 2000 miles of road travel and many hidden sights. We spent 2 weeks wandering around the country. This was an experience that should be a great for anyone! I found Birmingham to be a great city, with good people and many things to see. It was clean and neat, I loved the traffic roundabouts. I would very much like to work and live in Birmingham for a while, a year or two. Just for the experience. All in all Birmingham was a beautiful city with great people. Thanks, I miss Birmingham already.
I'll be back! Stevo
Second post on my search. If anyone can find my relatives I am prepared to pay £50 for a successfull reunion. Its a little less than the red cross but thought someone in brum may have time on their hands for us to help each other out. If you can make contact, to show I mean no malice ask Yvonne the last time I seen her. It should be 1987. To confirm she is the Yvonne I arrived with my father just before a celebration.
What was it?
See my earlier post.
With reference to the understated report about the so called non existent flu epidemic, the reason people do not go to their GP's is that they feature a poster telling you not to seek an appointment as using anti-biotics can hinder healthy bacteria and that over the counter products are more suitable, well not in this case I can testify to that. well in 7 years I have had flu symtoms only once...till this winter where I am now suffering my third bout of this viral infection, and know of many, and I do mean MANY who have suffered the same. The fact is this truly giving me cause for concern and leaving me dismayed, that it is not being given more serious and prominent discussion and advice from our health sector. Thankfully our mild winter may just help save the lives of the more vulnerable members of our community.

Your Review Of Birmingham: Alex tell the truth, I lived in Seattle long enough to know that what you have described sounds a lot like Pikes Place Market, or anywhere in the downtown area.. A few differences are, there are not as many bald people in Seattle, but there are a lot of people with colored mohawks or brain fins in Seattle. Seen the Space Needle? What's left? I will be in Birmingham around the first few weeks in May.. If what he sez is true I am going to have a lousy time. The people in Seattle always seemed to be very presumptious. To me the common thread is how much time did you spend with the local people? The surroundings could have been a castle, but if the people were wrong, no fun. People are the key! I will be running loose in the city with friends who live in Birmingham, I think my review may be a little different, of course I will spend a bit more time in the Pubs with friends. Your hanging out with the wrong friends. You will see my review near the end of May. Stevo
Here is a website of a family that needs help saving their home. It appears that the family home is in foreclosure due to medical bills, a family member having no insurance and trying to care for a sick elderly person.
There is some pictures on the website link pages. I also noticed electronic donations and donations by mail being accepted.
The website explains in greater detail than I can. I just happened upon this site today.

Help get the word out about this website. Help me get traffic by adding a link to this page on your website, telling friends and family, people on your buddy list, co-workers, people you volunteer with, contact your local newspaper, maybe you have a message board, e-mail people from your address book that you already know (do NOT Spam) and etc. Maybe start a collection at your church or at your place of employment.

i have just read all the comments on brum, not many are nice, well i moved to cornwall 8 years ago and i can tell you i can not wait to get back, the only thing stopping me is property prices, but as soon as i can i will be back, if all those brum knockers were to move down here they would know what a dump really is, oh its nice to go down the beach and all that , but the employment is almost no exsistent and if a job does become available you have to be related to another employee to stand a chance, the cornish are the most bigoted race around so dont knock brum i for one cant wait to get back, brum is the best place on earth.

I read the comments of the gentleman from Seattle. All too easy to take offense at this sort of thing but in one way at least I think Brum, and many other cities in UK are unpleasant places... its the amount of used chewing gum sticking to the footpaths. We Brits seem to have developed the habit of spitting the stuff out all over the place. If I could change one thing about Brum and many other cities in UK, that would be it. US Cities I have visited don't suffer from this, neither do continental ones to such an extent... so whats the matter with us ?
Hey all. I just wanted to drop a line to let all of you folks here in Birmingham know that not all of us here in the states hold your city in such a low light. I plan on moving here someday. I have grown quite fond of the your Football club(one of the best in the league), your sites, and the city itself. Hopefully this will help to quell some of the rubbish that people have been saying. Cheers.

Does anyone know of any bonfires around the Halesowen/Romsley/Rubery areas? If so, when are they on?
