A couple were stabbed in what was thought to be an unprovoked attack in a popular Midland shopping centre yesterday.
A man in his late 20s was being held in police custody following the incident, which happened at
2.15pm at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in Brierley Hill. The injured man and woman were taken by ambulance to Dudley's Russell's Hall Hospital where their condition was described by officers as "not life-threatening".
Inspector Eric Hughes, from West Midlands Police, said a man was arrested at the scene and taken to Brierley Hill police station where he was still being questioned by detectives last night.
Insp Hughes said: "A male in his late 20s carried out what was believed to be an unprovoked attack on a male and a female.
"The couple sustained injuries and were taken to Russell's Hall Hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening."
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics had attended the scene and that a male and a female patient has been treated for stab wounds before being taken to hospital.
