It's a bad sign for boy band

Nov 23 2004

By Poppy Brady, Evening Mail

Heartbroken fans of a top boy band say their chart heroes' visit to a Birmingham store left them feeling Blue.

Pals Rachael Dark, 16, and 15-year-old Laura Corrall were among more than 1,000 fans who queued for hours to see the boy band at a meet and greet session in Woolworths' Big W store in Bordesley Green.

The pair spent £12 in the shop buying Blue calendars they hoped would be signed by the four stars, but were told the signing was for albums only.

"We were then fast tracked past the band by security and only had time to say hello to one of the band members before being shown the door," said Rachael, who with Laura, is a pupil at Windsor High School in Halesowen. "The girl in front of us was distraught after getting her CD signed only to have one of the security guys take it off her because she had taken too long."

Rachael's father David, who runs Castle China in Jury Street, Warwick, said: "I feel this whole session was a con and I'm disgusted at the treatment of my daughter and other

upset fans. "Thank goodness I wasn't the father of the girl who had her CD thrown away otherwise I would have been tempted to 'meet and greet' the security people on my terms."

A Blue spokesman said: "Monday's signing was a big success with well over 1,000 fans having their albums signed. "The event was advertised as an album signing. Blue's team and Woolworths made it clear that, to be fair to everyone waiting to meet the band, Blue would be signing only one copy of the album for each person and no other items. "Unfortunately it seems Rachael and Laura didn't get that message before they bought their calendars. We've arranged to send them a signed picture of the band each as a consolation."
