Alert after flat blaze

Jan 28 2008

Birmingham Mail

FIREFIGHTERS have warned people to invest in smoke alarms after a blaze at a house in Birmingham.

Three crews were sent to the fire which was at an empty flat in Warwick Road near Tyseley Railway Station after reports of flames coming out of windows.

The flat was searched using breathing apparatus and a fire in the ground-floor living room was extinguished.

Watch Commander Paul Hamilton said: "There was no smoke detector at the flat. We would like to remind people that they are able to get a smoke detector free of charge by contacting the West Midlands Fire Service."

Crews from Highgate, Hay Mills and Billesley attended the incident and police are now investigating the cause of the fire which happened at about 6.30pm yesterday. No-one was injured in the fire. n To contact the fire service call 0121 380 7404 or visit the website www.wmfs.net.
