Outcry as killer Tracie Andrews is let out of jail

THE parents of Midland murder victim Lee Harvey have spoken of their fury after his killer Tracie Andrews was let out of prison for a taste of freedom just 11 years into her life sentence.

Andrews, 36, who has changed her name to Tia Carter, was told she must serve a minimum of 14 years by a judge at Birmingham Crown Court in 1997 when she was jailed for life for stabbing her fiancé 37 times in a lane near their home in Alvechurch, north Worcestershire.

She went on TV shortly after the murder and claimed Mr Harvey, aged 25, had been the victim of a mystery road rage killer.

It has now emerged that blonde-haired Andrews was allowed out of Send open prison, near Woking in Surrey, for as short trip to a nearby hospital.

Reports said she was picked up from jail by taxi at 9.40am last Monday and, accompanied by two prison officers, was driven five miles to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. She was taken back after about 40 minutes.

A prison source said people serving life behind bars lose touch with the outside world, so they are given short visits to prepare them for eventual release.

But Lee's mother Maureen, aged 62, from Birmingham, said: "The do-gooders say she's been rehabilitated, but she'll never change. She has a terrible temper and will kill again.

"Life should have meant life for her. Now she's nearly served her minimu m 14 years and we're the ones doing the life sentence."

And Lee's lorry driver father Ray, 63, added: "She lied to police and lied in court.

"She can't tell the truth and lives in a fantasy. She should never be let out."
