Aug 12 2008

Birmingham Mail

A MIDLANDS choir was in fine voice as it helped raise more than £6,000 for a hospice.

The Cantoria Girls Choir performed a mix of solo and group songs at Swinfen Hall Hotel, in Lichfield, to collect much needed f unds for Acorns Children's Hospice, which has facilities in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester.

The choir, made up of students from Abbots Bromley Girls School aged 16 to 18, performed a variety of numbers from Mozart to Gershwin, while directed by musical director Colin Walker.

Their efforts saw them raise a huge £6,050 for the hospice, which treats children with serious illnesses.

In addition to ticket and DVD sales of the performance, money was raised by the school in a raf[fb02]e organised by the students prior to the event.

Helen Wiser, owner of Swinfen Hall Hotel, said: "We are delighted to raise money for Acorns.

"Everyone from Abbots Bromley School, from the students to the head and governors, has been fantastic."

A DVD of the event is available from Swinfen Hall Hotel, priced £10, with all proceeds going to Acor ns Children's Hospice.
