Teenager survives fall from moving bus

Feb 27 2007

A TEENAGER had a miraculous escape after falling from a moving bus onto a parked car in Birmingham.

The 14-year-old fell from the bus in the Sparkhill area at around 5.30pm yesterday.

Barry Timms, one of the first ambulance crew on the scene said: "The girl suffered facial and head injuries but it could easily have been a great deal worse.

"The girl told us that she and a friend had missed their stop. They came down from the upstairs saloon and between them managed to open the doors of the bus.

"One girl fell out from the moving vehicle, but her friend managed to hang on to a railing."

Initial reports suggested the girl, who has not been named, was unconscious and in cardiac arrest, and an air ambulance was called in. But the girl's injuries were not as serious as first thought, and the air ambulance was recalled.

As a precaution, the girl, from Sparkhill, was put in a neck brace while she was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Mr Timms added: "Clearly this incident could have ended in tragedy; fortunately it did not and the girl was re-united with her mother at hospital."
