DJ leaves BRMB breakfast show

Feb 1 2007

By Graham Young, Birmingham Mail

Elliott Webb and Caroline Martin

ELLIOTT Webb has left BRMB's breakfast show after nearly five years in the hot seat and will be replaced by a mother-of-four who lives with the station's programme controller.

Despite an autumn survey claiming Elliott had the "sexiest voice in Birmingham", his co-host Caroline Martin will now front the three-hour programme from 6am with a new team.

Partner and BRMB programme controller Adam Bridge is the father of three of Caroline's children - Jude, six, Elliott, five, and Holly, two - while 13-year-old son Josh lives with her ex-husband, a rock DJ.

After giving birth to Holly and then joining The Big Brum Breakfast 14 months ago, Caroline's profile has rapidly increased.

Exactly a year ago she joined Elliott's second stint as the host of BRMB's controversial Two Strangers And a Wedding stunt which again ended in a failed marriage.

Cambridge-born Caroline, aged 34, was then used to spearhead a recent major BRMB advertising campaign aimed at the station's target audience of 25 to 39 year old women.

Worcester-born Elliott, aged 35, took over the breakfast show in September 2002 charged with following Les Ross's record-breaking 26 years on breakfasts with BRMB/XTRAam and he recently moved to a new flat in Moseley.

Having been taken off air following Monday's show, his new options will start with next week's Drivetime programme following the end-of-contract release of presenter Tom Binns.

Adam, aged 31, said: "Elliott is a great broadcaster who has been with us for more than ten years.

"Following Les Ross was always going to be one hell of a gig, but we have just reached the point where we needed to freshen the show up a bit and move in a different direction.

"Our research shows that listeners like the way Caroline has 'relatability' and tells it like it is."

Elliott said today: "Four years on breakfasts is probably the equivalent of 20 in any normal job so I'm excited about not knowing exactly what I'll be doing throughout the next 12 months."

Last year Caroline gave an exclusive interview to the Birmingham Mail about the pitfalls of working for her partner.

"We were both nervous about working together but I think it's turned out all right," she said.
