Lorry crash causes rush-hour chaos

Mar 6 2006

The lorry involved in the crash in Erdington this morning

AN articulated lorry overturned outside a major city shopping centre today, causing traffic chaos.

The lorry, a bulk waste carrier, was turned on its side following a collision with a grey MG Rover on the Fort Parkway in Erdington at 5.50am.

The road outside the Fort Shopping Centre was closed between Bromford Lane and Chester Road following the crash as recovery teams righted the vehicle. It lead to long tailbacks and queues on nearby routes during the busy Monday morning rush hour.

Fire rescue teams from Erdington and Ward End were called to the crash scene.

They freed the driver of the lorry, who was taken to Good Hope Hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises. The car driver suffered slight injuries and was treated at the scene.
