Big-hearted Sunday Mercury readers have been praised for donating thousands of pounds to help pay for medical supplies for sick and injured Iraqi children.
Medical Aid For Iraqi Children sent heartfelt thanks after we helped raise £3,000 as part of our Give A Child Health Basra appeal last year.
The charity received more than £126,000 in total and the money was used to buy antibiotics, anti-cancer drugs, medicines, wheelchairs, crutches and British medical journals for four paediatric hospitals and a spinal cord injury centre in Baghdad and Basra.
David Brookes, editor of the Sunday Mercury, said: "Once again, we had a wonderful response from our generous readers and we are glad that the money has been used for such a worthwhile cause."
The war in Iraq last year and subsequent breakdown in security has had a devastating impact on health conditions in the country, according to the charity.
