PERTEMPS BEES 38 ORRELL 25 Pertemps Bees rounded off a monumental week by running in six tries against lowly Orrell. On Wednesday Bees' members agreed to push for full-time status but despite this a disappointingly low crowd turned out for this fixture. Bees were boosted by the return of lock Alex Davidson and the signing of Simon Hunt. However, despite Orrell being rock bottom of National One with only one win to their name, the Mancoulian visitors held their own against Bees and could have snatched a result. The hosts opened the scoring after only three minutes, winger Nick Baxter bursting down the left flank to slide over for an unconverted try. Orrell bounced back four minutes later, courtesy of a Paul Knight mistake. The scrum-half misdirected a pass which allowed Warren Spragg to dash through and touch down. James Moore put the visitors in the lead with the conversion. Luke Narraway, who was making his first start, put Bees in front with a try on 14 minutes after some excellent running by Thomas Jordan. Tim Walsh sent the conversion over. The away side clawed their way back when Adam Kirby touched down in the left corner before Moore added the kick. Man-of-the-match Miles slid over for BeesÂ’ third try minutes before the interval but, despite the conversion, Moore levelled the score with a penalty on the stroke of half-time. Moore kicked his second penalty 16 minutes into the second half but Bees soon took hold of the game. Two converted tries, by Dave Knight and former Bristol man Hunt, put Bees in the driving seat with ten minutes to go. Orrell were handed a penalty try minutes from the end but threw any chance of a comeback away with a poorly-taken conversion. But record try-scorer Baxter wrapped up the win when he ran 50 yards to simply touch down under the posts and Australian fly-half Walsh converted the effort to hand Bees their third victory of 2005. SCORERS: Bees - tries: Knight, Baxter (2), Narraway , Miles, Hunt; conversions: Walsh (4). Orrell - tries: Spragg, Kirby and a penalty try; conversions: Moore (2); penalties: Moore (2). |
