Paul Merson would like to recruit "a couple of big-name players" to make clear Walsall's ambitions of a serous tilt at promotion next season.
Merson is already looking ahead to next term with his team's League One status secured with two games left, starting with the visit to Hartlepool on Saturday.
The Saddlers will travel north-east in search of their fourth successive victory.
It's a burst of form which, achieved with a bit of style too, has ignited optimism for next season.
And it's supplied a momentum which Merson intends to keep going with the help of the players he already has on board - and one or two new ones.
Turning Julian Joachim's loan spell from Leeds into something more permanent is a priority - as is signing another player of similar stature to the former Villa star.
"I want to bring in a couple of big name players," Merson said. "Players like Julian Joachim who would kick-start the fans and really show them what we are all about - that we want to keep this club moving forward.
"I've spoken to Julian and he knows what we can offer him. He's talking it over with his agent.
"We'll have to wait and see and of course a lot depends on whether Leeds agree to pay him off. But we've got a chance.
"It would be fantastic if we could get him and another one like him."
The Saddlers have several key players, including Simon Osborn, Darren Wrack and Michael Standing, out of contract next month. Merson wants them, as well as loanees Andrew Surman and Anthony Gerrard, to stay.
