Sutton Coldfield College Sixth Form Centre has earned a reputation for excellence with a team of professional, experienced and dedicated staff who are specialists in post-16 education. There are first-rate facilities with media studios, dance studios, high specification radio suites and state-of-the-art theatre, excellent art and design facilities, and outstanding examination results. It is planned that Sutton Coldfield College and North Birmingham College will be merging from July this year. This merger will ensure that the highest quality provision will be available to students at both centres. Staff in the Sixth Form Centre are committed to high quality teaching. This is reflected in high levels of student achievement and attainment with Summer 2000 being the most successful year ever, with the best examination results and students being awarded a number of accolades. The college is celebrating the publication of the latest performance tables that confirmed their reputation as a leading provider for post-16 courses. The college has been ranked second out of all the Birmingham colleges. Ten A-level subjects achieved 100per cent pass rates, and eight others received in excess of 90per cent pass rates. The top 50 A-level students averaged 340 points (AAB). The BTEC National Diplomas achieved outstanding results, with a pass rate of 94per cent for its 207 candidates Ð well above the national average. The college has an award-winning Academy of Dramatic Arts which regularly competes in national festivals. The Art and Design Centre has won a number of competitions and taken part in exhibitions. The ILEX legal secretaries' course was recognized for its work placement programme by Eversheds who awarded a bursary of £250 to the student of the year. The Sports Academy has also won a number of competitions. Opportunities in the Sixth Form Centre: The Sixth Form Centre offers a range of qualifications Ð AS-levels, GCSEs and vocational qualifications. Students can take up to five AS-levels in the first year of their course, before specialising in the second year. Students can mix academic and vocational qualifications by undertaking AS-levels or GCSEs alongside BTEC Nationals or other advanced or intermediate level vocational qualifications. The Accelerated one-year A3 programme: The Accelerated A3 one-year intensive A-level resit programme is for students who want to improve their A-level grades. A number of students have followed this route and have now taken up their first choice of universities to study medicine, dentistry, law and business studies. Languages: The Sixth Form Centre is one of only a few centres to offer five languages at A-level Ð French, German, Spanish, Urdu, and Panjabi. Students achieved excellent results in the Summer 2002 series of examinations with 100Êper cent passes in French and Spanish. New courses for 2003: AS-level citizenship, A-level music, combined business studies/AAT course, ILEX vocational legal studies certificate, BTEC first diploma in performing arts (performance: dance), GCSE sociology, foundation level 2 craft electrical training. The college has built on its reputation for academic, sporting and performing arts by encouraging students to achieve excellent results year on year.
