Responding to local skills

Birmingham Community College has recognised the growing call centre sector as a source of employment opportunities for people working in Birmingham.

Birmingham offers enormous potential for recruitment among younger workers. Working with Advantage West Midlands Skills Development Fund, BCC has agreed to establish and resource a network of call centre training rooms which will:

Deliver the 'live' necessary work experience opportunities for trainees by providing, through its facilities and supervised trainees, an integrated and seamless call centre service.

Provide individuals with relevant call centre skills and qualifications.

Offer small to medium enterprises (SMEs) opportunities through joint pilot and experimental 'outsourcing' activity.

Facilitate the development of existing call centres and sales management workforce with the provision of education and training programmes.

Provide a pool of skilled and experienced labour for existing employers for just-in-time telesales and other call centre activities

Birmingham has nearly two million people living within a 40-minute journey to work, and can therefore claim to posses the largest regional workforce.

Call centre operators will be able to find a potential workforce that have the right skills, training and experience to be able to work outside the normal office hours.
