The past few years has also seen a spectacular rise in the number and variety of bars in the city, with places like Tiger Tiger, Circo, and 52 Degrees North even getting checked in the national press.
This very lively bar feels more like a club with a range of music, from Latin American on Wednesdays to funky beats on Fridays and a chilled out session on Sunday. Generally a lively atmosphere and regular drinks promotions.
2.Medicine Bar The Custard Factory, Birmingham (0121 693 6001)
A student-friendly bar where you can mingle with folk from other B'ham Uni's and soak up some seriously cool vibes. There's always a top atmosphere and there are regular promotions and special events (including cult DJs from UK and US).
3.RSVP Maple House, 186 Corporation Street, Birmingham (0121 236 1945)
Near to the Aston and Gosta Green campus, RSVP is regular student warm up spot for clubbing nights and a good place for a group get-together. There's always plenty of room as RSVP is one of the biggest bars in the city centre.
4.Fifty-Two Degrees North Arcadian, Hurst Street, Birmingham (0121 622 5250)
A good place to warm up for the weekend, with a jazzy interior and music to match. Situated in the Chinese/Gay Quarter there are plenty of clubs to stumble over to after 10pm on the weekends, or you can 'bop' to the music played by the resident DJs. There's also food available, but like the drinks, it can be pricey.
5. Bar Coast Arcadian Centre, Hurst Street, Birmingham (0121 200 2650)
A stylish inner city bar with reasonably priced drinks and good two for one deal's on fancy food. Weekdays are relaxed but the weekends bring live DJs with big tunes, turning Bar Coast into a perfect pre-club venue.
