It's fair to say that Birmingham has played a massive part in shaping the club culture of this country... Miss Moneypenny's, Sundissential, Godskitchen, Babooshka, etc, etc, the city can rival anywhere else in the country.
For a starter, here's our suggestion for five top night outs: 1. Code/ Godskitchen 43 Heath Mill Lane, Digbeth, Birmingham (0121 693 2633) If clubbing is your religion then this is your church. The country's best DJs are regulars at Code on the highly popular nights featuring Godskitchen (house & dance), Babooshka (American house) and Session (progressive house). Regular gust DJs including Judge Jules, Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold and Fergie play the latest tunes to a usually packed club. Code has a buzzing atmosphere, with a massive dance floor and laser effects, but prices can be steep (NUS discounts are available), opening times can also vary (opening times from 9pm or 10pm/ closing from 2am to 6am). Dress to impress... 2. Snobs Nightclub 29 Paradise Circus, Birmingham (0121 643 5551) Everything a student needs from a nightclub - cheap booze, NUS discounts, and top music from residents in two rooms (imaginatively called 'the big room' and the 'little room'). Snobs has a variety of theme nights including Big Wednesday (only students are out clubbing on a Wednesday) there's cheap entry and drinks from 10pm until 2am, and Indie and Soul music from regular DJs. There' also the Freak-scene every other Friday with alternative disco and 80' glam, (not to mention 50p shots and Carlsberg bottles for £1) and Loaded every other Saturday playing Indie, Soul and 60s music (£3 entry with NUS and 50p shots until 11pm). No frills. 3. Miss Moneypenny's at Libertys, 184 Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham (0121 454 4444) The most glamorous and vibrant night you'e most likely to go to is Miss Moneypenny' on Saturdays at Libertys nightclub. You need to be slightly eccentric to go to these nights; the dress code is always stylish-glamour (if that' poss.). There are usually long queues so try and get there early (doors open 9.30pm -2.30am) and admission is £10 with NUS. 4. Tiger Tiger Broad Street, Birmingham (0121 643 9722) A fantastic club, restaurant and bar all in one, Tiger Tiger is a spacey, swanky venue offering a range of music from funky house to jazz and chill out to classic pop. Designer Denim held on Thursday is student night. Entry is free before 9pm and £2.30 before 10pm. Drink offers are on all night until 2am. Dress Smart. 5. Birmingham Academy 52-54 Dale End, (opposite Toys R us), Birmingham (0121) 643 5551 The Academy is Birmingham's newest venue in town, boasting a great gig scene along with a wide range of theme nights, were there is something for everyone. Ramshackle and Red balloon on Friday nights, is mixture of indie, hip-hop, break beat and 60's and 70's classics. Entry is cheep at £5 with an NUS card and pints are £1 from 10pm until 3am. Saturday night at the Academy is Sundissential, a mix of trance, house and dance from 9.30pm until 4am. Entry is £10.00 for members and £12.00 for everybody else. |
