Birmingham has a huge number of great places to visit, whether you just want to get away for a day or simply impress the parents (yawn).
And because it's in the middle of the country, it's devilishly easy to escape from, if you feel the need.
The most popular tourist attractions in the region include:
(1.) The National Sea Life Centre, Birmingham Brindleyplace, B'ham Landlocked and more than 100 miles from the nearest beach, Birmingham's an obvious place for fish, fish and more fish, including sharks and seahorses! There's some seriously ugly sea life in those tanks...
(2.)Warwick Castle, Warwickshire Arguably the most impressive (and popular) castle in the UK. Dungeons, peacocks, and damn nice views.
(3.)Cadbury World, Bournville, Birmingham The home of chocolate. Experience the history of choc' from the Americas to Europe, and see choc' being made. A bit family orientated in places, but the sizeable shop at the end will satisfy any sweet cravings you might have.
(4.) Alton Towers, Staffordshire Theme park with all manner of gut churning rides guaranteed to place your stomach firmly in your mouth. Major rides include Submission, Nemesis and The Black Hole. Bet you wish you'd missed breakfast now, eh?
(5.)Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery Chamberlain Square, B'ham Home to a world renowned Pre-Raphaelite collection (pale looking moody chicks with flowing locks), plus some fine Renaissance and French paintings. The recently opened Waterhall Gallery houses a growing contemporary collection.
