University of Birmingham is primed and ready for today's A-levels results, as thousands of students across the country seek a university place through the clearing process. The university's Great Hall has been turned into an admissions mission control centre, where nearly 40 staff will be on stand-by to take an expected 5,000 calls once the results are issued. The admissions team will advise students about the status of their application at the university, or about going through the clearing process. They will also individually consider the results of more than 7,000 UCAS applicants to Birmingham who accepted an offer, to make a decision on whether they can be given their place. Duluth Chambers, director of admissions at the University of Birmingham, said: Ã’Clearing can be a stressful time for students and parents, but our team of advisers are on hand to guide them through the whole process. "My best advice is don't panic. Make some calls and consider your options." Students with queries about the status of their application to the University of Birmingham, or who would like more information about the courses available at the university through clearing, can call the admissions hotline on 0121 414 2222. TOP TEN CLEARING TIPS The University of Birmingham has put together its top ten tips to help guide students and parents through clearing: - Have your UCAS ID number available. - Keep a pen and paper near to make notes. - Make sure to find a quiet spot. - Make the call yourself - speak clearly. - Think laterally about what you might want to do. - Don't make speculative calls saying 'what's available' - Don't make snap decisions. - Be prepared to travel to an interview if asked. - If you verbally accept an offer and change your mind, tell the university.
